International Club Dinner: Food and Fanfare

by Jared Kidd

The Delone Catholic International Club hosted its annual International Dinner on April 10, 2019. This event is organized by club members and advisor Dr. Barb Wert to celebrate diversity and culture at Delone Catholic.

The cafeteria is transformed in a multi-cultural dining experience including decorations and a guest speaker.

There were a myriad of different foods including dishes from China, Spain, Hungary, and Germany such dumplings, sushi, Hungarian goulash, and various rice and meat recipes.

“I really enjoy bringing together all of us through this exchange of food and culture,” explained William Zhang, a senior international student from China. “It is also a good time to eat lots of yummy food.”

The decorations for the dinner were all traditional Chinese adornments. This is due, in part, to the large number of Chinese students who are members of the club.

Additionally, most of these decorations were hand-crafted. Kevin Hao, also a senior international student from China explained that creating decorations best suited his personality. “I like this job because it is easy, and it lets me relax.”

The guest speaker this year was Miss Beth Sneeringer, a 1996 graduate of Delone Catholic and current math teacher. Miss Sneeringer shared her experiences with international travel, which she schedules each year. Her most recent travels included Krakow, Poland and Florence, Italy.

Much of the responsibility for organizing the events falls to leadership team of the club, including Vice President and Senior Murphy Yan, who also gave a speech. A slide show played including information and photos from of all of the members giving some insight about the experiences and home countries.

The International Dinner is a unique event that truly showcases the diversity of students at Delone Catholic.
