Career Day - Thinking about the Future

Thinking about your future and what you might want to do can be an overwhelming thought for many students. This March 2025, Delone hosted its very own career day, allowing students to hear from professionals in their respective fields.
From graphic design to nursing, students were able to choose the stations they went to at the end of the day in an online form. To set up this day, alumni, parents, and professionals were sought out and prepared speeches, presentations, and examples to show off their careers.
Through this, students were able to see what education went into these jobs, what work looks like, what salaries would be like, and why to pursue specific careers. For example, those in the cybersecurity station received a packet of information relating to college degrees and further job opportunities from there.
Kaitlyn Synnamon, a freshman, benefited from this, stating she “wants to be a physical therapist, so it was really interesting to have an actual physical therapist explain what they do.”
Not only were there stations at the end of the day, but during study halls and lunches, students were able to visit booths in the gym spanning from volunteer, internship, education, and job opportunities. Companies and organizations like Roots for Boots, Pella, and David Ross Orthodontics handed out information, which was helpful for many students.
Both career day and booths in the gym are great ways to get students involved in thinking about their futures, shaping the decisions they may make in high school. It can be hard to seek this information and opportunities out on your own, which is why it’s so important that Delone has days like this.
What lies ahead may still daunt many, but it is still beneficial to see what job opportunities are available and what steps to take in the meantime. The day was overall successful and informative, leaving many thinking about their futures.
