Young Lacrosse Program Boasts Accomplishments

Coming off the first varsity season for Delone Catholic lacrosse, the season did not go as well as planned. The team finished 2-12, but did have several promising seniors to lead the team into their 2nd varsity season.
Co-captain and senior Dillon Kadis stated, “the season looked promising but a lot of hard work needs to happen for a tradition of great lacrosse to be established at Delone Catholic.”
Kadis scored his 100th goal in April, a remarkable feat in only three seasons.
Co-captains Dillon Kadis and Gabriel Hall plan on playing collegiate lacrosse, whether at the varsity or club level, but both insist that they were completely focused on their final high school season. Kadis will pursue lacrosse at Wilkes University in Pennsylvania, while Hall will attend the University of Delaware.
“We are excited to have an opportunity to play at the next level but there is nothing more important to us that competing for our team right now,” stated Hall.
Head Coach Wade Smith commented on the aspirations his team has. “This team can go farther than the league believes; they don't respect us,” explained Smith. “We have to establish a winning mindset before we can start putting wins together but I believe in the team and they believe in me and the mindset is beginning to come together.”
Coach Smith is not alone in his coaching endeavor: he is joined by assistant coaches Foster Hoit and Ryan Groft. Coach Hoit is the offensive coordinator and defensive specialist while Coach Groft is the goalie guru.
“A lot of teams in high school overlook the necessity of a strong defense while also having a lighting quick offense. Everyone wants to score but keeping the opponent off the scoreboard is just as if not more important than scoring. Defense wins championships,” stated Coach Hoit.
The team finished the 2019 season at an improved 5-10. Even though the team is graduating several experienced seniors including Kadis, Hall, Conar Kuhn, Sam Woo, Nathaniel Bladen, and Luke Panzer, the future looks bright in search of a winning season.
Sophomore Dylan Zimmerman was named by YAIAA coach to the All County 2nd team as a long stick midfield and other young players will only benefit from game time experience as the program continues to grow.
