DCHS Hall of Honor Inductee: From the Archives




Recently, Jean M. (Sneeringer) Steinour, Class of 1947, was inducted in to the DCHS Hall of Honor. While in high school, Mrs. Steinour wrote for the student newspaper, then called The Delonian. An article featuring Mrs. Steinour in the school play, published when she was on staff of the newspaper, as well a a photo of her with Bishop Leech have been retrieved from the archives.

By Claire McMaster ‘27 Photo courtesy of Brienna Richelle Photography Amelia Posner was the new starting   forward for the Delone Catholic Field   Hockey team while also being a relatively new member of the Delone student body. With that, she has faced many challenges along the way   throughout her academic life. Amelia has moved around all her life because of her dad’s role in the U.S. Army, so adapting came naturally to her. The one adaptation she wasn’t familiar with was discontinuing a sport she had played for four years prior to her senior year and starting a new sport.  Field Hockey was a fresh start for Amelia. She said, “As a transfer, it was definitely a challenge to find my fit here, but I found people who support me, and are always uplifting and positive; great teammates are the game changer when it comes to the athletic environment.”  Picking up a new sport can be hard for anyone, especially when just moving to a new school. Alumni Spotlight: The Bittersweet Lasts of Senior Year

By Maria Elser, ’18 It feels like only a week ago, I was gallivanting the halls of Delone Catholic, sitting in Mrs. Phenicie’s office, or in Ms. Noel’s classroom, and asking desperately for advice on which college to choose. But now – just like that – I am a graduating senior at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, MD. The Mount community has shaped me in ways I never could have anticipated – especially throughout my senior year, this bittersweet year of lasts. Amidst this horrific pandemic, my senior year has certainly looked different than most. Fortunately, the Mount has worked tirelessly to keep us all on campus with in-person or hybrid classes.  While my graduating class has missed out on some key events such as Senior Formal, Ott’s nights, and Piano Bar, we have still had the pleasure of living in community together on our beautiful campus. 300 Words: Delone Catholic Marching Band

by Maggie Rink Delone Catholic Marching Band. Made up of 33 students and their main instructor Brian Yealy. Formed from a motley group, these students come together each year to bring about a uniformed show for the audience’s entertainment every Friday night under the lights. These members give up their summer every year to put together a show to please the audience. Practices start the third week of June and run all the way through November. In the middle of July, these musicians take a week out of their summer to spend long, over 12 hour days, preparing for the marching show. Students are out in the summer sun for hours learning and practicing the routine. The work does not end there. Every Tuesday and Thursday during the school year the students have practice from 6:30 pm to 9 pm. Days can be hot and full of hard work.
