Songs of Sea & Sky

On Sunday, April 21 the curtain closed at the Delone Catholic Music Department’s Spring Concert. The Spring Concert included performances by the Junior Band, Concert Band, and Chorus as well as the addition of the Jazz Band. 

Many practices and rehearsals led up to this spectacular performance. The Delone Catholic Concert Band performed four songs, under the unofficial theme ”Sea and Sky,”  which included “Seal Lullaby,” featuring Evan Glass on piano, “Learn to Fly,” a popular song by the band Foo Fighters, “The Great Clipper Race,” a retelling of the story of two great steamships through music, and finally “Seashell Shanty,” a composition composed by Delone Catholic junior Will Frizzell. 


The Chorus, which rehearsed during Activity Periods in school and during a few out-of-school rehearsals, performed four pieces. The first “Scarborough Fair,” an old English folk song made famous by Simon and Garfunkel, was performed in a four-part harmony and was accompanied by junior Amelia Posner on the piano. 


The Chorus also performed “No One is Alone” from the musical Into the Woods, and “Peace Like A River,” a mashup of two well-known hymns. “Laudate Dominum,” a Latin song of praise, was accompanied by senior Gabriella Sky Erdman on the piano.


While this may conclude the performances at Delone Catholic this year, there will be plenty in store upon the recommencement of school in the fall.

Making Headlines: Speech & Debate

by Alessandra Colantoni '27 “In my summary, Speech and Debate is a creative community that closely compares to the theater,” Kali Hilfiger ‘26 says when asked about the sport that she has participated in since eighth grade. Coached by Mr. Derf Maitland, one of the English teachers here at Delone, as well as Mrs. Janet, the members of the speech and debate team work hard each week to perfect and perform what are hoped to be award-winning pieces at one of the many competitions attended throughout the season. A Clue As to Why Theatre is More Than Just An Extracurricular

 by Aubrey Dittmar '23 Why is theatre important? Senior Joey Chirillo is one of the best students to answer this question. Chirillo is the Delone Catholic Theatre Department’s Sound Director; he controls all of the sound effects you hear during the show along with all of the microphones. Joey had  no prior experience in theatre, but had prior experience working with sound. Since the end of his sophomore year, Joey had spent time with Walter Kotlinsky '22 learning about sound technology during the school Masses and pep rallies.  The cast of Clue photo credit Brienna Richelle Last year he was asked to help out with the fall play Bethel Park Falls and it’s easy to say that he was the perfect fit. Joey not only did exactly what he was supposed to do, but went above and beyond and even added some extra sounds like birds chirping, or crickets, to truly immerse the audience into the scene.
